Below are highlights of what’s coming up in West Oahu.

* DOE Central complex schools from Aiea, Radford and Moanalua are invited to a public forum with the Board of Education at 6:30 p.m. Nov. 1 at Mokulele Elementary School cafeteria on Hickam AFB. Call 586-3332.

* Family and Community Education presents free demonstrations of Christmas craft ideas at 6 p.m. Nov. 1 at Kapolei Library. Call 247-0421, ext. 100.

* Tobacco-Free Oahu holds briefings for businesses on the new smoke-free law at 10 a.m., 1 and 3 p.m. Nov. 1 at the Kapolei state building. Call 586-4613.


* Prudential Locations has a free seminar for first-time homebuyers at 6:30 p.m. Nov. 2 at Waipahu Elementary School cafeteria. Call 738-3276.

* Kapolei Hale has an exhibit of Arbor Day posters by sixth-graders on the theme “Trees are Terrific ... in All Shapes and Sizes” weekdays Nov. 2-8. Call 523-4674.

* The women of Pearl City Hongwanji conduct a craft fair from 8 a.m. to noon Nov. 4 at 858 Second St., offering handmade items, produce, sushi, plants, cut flowers, pickled vegetables, jams, jellies, baked goods and cookbooks. Call 455-1832.

* The Urban Garden Center has a free potted tree or shrub (while supplies last) for residents who come at 7 a.m. Nov. 4 to 955 Kamehameha Hwy.The Arbor Day observance is sponsored by HECO and various garden and forestry agencies.

* Hawaii’s Plantation Village hosts a Makahiki Festival from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Nov. 4. Call 677-0110.

* Pearlridge Center presents musical “Classics"from 6 to 8 p.m. Nov. 4 with Richard Wells in Downtown’s center court.

* The Hawaiian Trails & Mountain Club leads an intermediate, 5-mile hike to the Waimano Tunnels in Pearl City at 8 a.m. Nov. 4. Call 674-1459.

* The Nature Conservancy leads a moderate hike from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Nov. 5 on Palikea Trail in Honouliuli Preserve. Call 587-6220.


* Lance Tominaga signs his book, Catch the Dream: The Story of Hawaii Winter Baseball, accompanied by Hawaii Winter Baseball mascots, at the Pearlridge Borders from 1 to 2 p.m. Nov 5, and at Waikele Borders from 2 to 3 p.m. Nov. 11.

* Pali Momi offers free blood pressure and blood sugar level testing from 7:30 to 9:30 a.m. Nov. 6 and 20 at Pearlridge Center Uptown. Call 488-0981.

* The Salvation Army accepts applications through Nov. 7 from needy families for the holidays at 98-612 Moanalua Loop in Aiea. Call 487-1636.

* Kapolei Hale hosts the 13th annual Leeward Young Artists Awards exhibit from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Nov. 9-16. The weekday exhibit is free to the public. Call 523-4674.

* Ewa Neighborhood Board meets at 7 p.m.Nov.9 at Ewa Beach Library. Call 527-5749.

* The Hawaii Blood Bank conducts donor drives from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Nov. 4 at St. Jude Catholic Church in Makakilo, and 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Nov. 12 at Calvary Chapel in Aiea. Call 845-9966.

* Kapolei Library (1020 Manawai St.) offers a series of free storytime programs now through Dec. 16. Toddler storytime (ages 2-3) is 10 a.m. Mondays, and preschool storytime is 10 a.m. Thursdays and Saturdays. Call 693-7050.

* Pearl City Library (1138 Waimano Home Road) is offering preschool storytimes Wednesdays at 9:30 a.m. through Dec. 13. Puzzletimes are Thursdays at 9:30 a.m. through Dec. 14. Call 453-6566.

* Waipahu Library (94-275 Mokuola St.) offers free storytime, songs and activities at 10:30 a.m. Tuesdays beginning Nov. 14 for keiki ages 3 to 5. Parents must accompany children. Call 675-0358.
