* AUTHOR TALK Novelist and playwright Jon Shirota discusses “Akisamiyo! From a Pig Farmer to a Writer” at 5 p.m. Nov. 9 on the Kuhialoko Lanai at UH West Oahu. The free talk is open to the public.

* NETWORKING The West Oahu Women Social and Business Network hosts its first mixer at 5:30 p.m Nov. 11 at Hapa Grill at the Marketplace at Kapolei. Tickets cost $15 with some proceeds going to Kapolei Rotary Club. Call 744-9854.

* OKINAWA BOOK Hawaii Okinawa Center hosts the launching of the third printing of Uchinanchu: A History of Okinawans in Hawaii from 2 to 3:30 p.m. Nov. 11 at 94-587 Ukee St. Actors Nyla Fujii-Babb and Dann Seki will share issei oral histories, and light refreshments will be served. Call 676-5400.

* MILITARY SALUTE Wet ‘n’ Wild Hawaii honors Hawaii’s military with live entertainment, games and prizes at its seventh annual Veteran’s Day Salute, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Kapolei park.All active-duty and veterans get in free, with a special admission rate of $19.99 for friends and family. * SUPPLY DRIVE Kapolei Middle School teachers seek classroom supplies such as board cleaner, construction paper or cardstock, Expo markers, file folders, glue (bottled and sticks), hand sanitizers, binder clips and old tennis balls for chair legs.
