Below are highlights of what’s coming up in West Oahu.

* BE PREPARED Deadline is June 4 to sign up for Campbell Local Emergency Action Network’s free emergency preparedness seminar, set for 9 a.m.-3 p.m. June 16 at Ihilani Resort. Register at http://www.cleanhawaii.org.

* DANCE FUNDRAISER Dance Hawaii hosts a benefit dance from 6 p.m. to 11 p.m. June 5 in Aliamanu Middle School cafeteria with social dance, line dancing, light refreshments and live music from Wasabi. Proceeds help Dance Hawaii and the school. Call Melvin Nakagawa at 741-7637.

* FAMILY WELLNESS Big Brothers Big Sisters of Honolulu, Hawaii Children’s Trust Fund and Kaiser Permanente host a free Family Fun Day from 10:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. June 5 at Moanalua Gardens, with food, games, balloon creations, a magician, obstacle course and prizes. * BLOOD BANK Hawaii Blood Bank has a donor drive from 7:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. June 5 at Pearlridge Uptown in the parking lot by Tilt. Call 845-9966.

* ARTFEST Handcrafters and Artisans Alliance has its ArtFest from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. June 5 by Paradise Cove Luau in Ko Olina. Call 696-6717.

* BALINESE MUSIC Kapolei Library hosts “Traditional Balinese Music and Dance” at 11 a.m. June 5 in the main lobby, followed by a talk on structure and technique. Call 693-7050.

* BON DANCE Hawaii’s Plantation Village launches the o-bon season June 5 with a ceremony at 4 p.m., food sales and a bon dance at 6. Call 677-0110.

* AIEA HIKES Hawaiian Trail & Mountain Club plans three hikes in Aiea at 8 a.m.

* ROTARY SPEAKER KHON2 news anchor Kirk Matthews addresses Kapolei Sunset Rotary Club at 5:30 p.m. June 7 at Roy’s Ko Olina. The $20 fee includes a light meal. Call 225-6205.

* NEIGHBORS Ewa Neighborhood Board meets at 7 p.m. June 10 at Ewa Beach Library, and the Aiea board meets at 7:30 p.m. June 14 at Aiea Library. Call 768-3710.

* ORCHID SHOW Aiea Orchid Club sponsors its 29th annual orchid show from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. June 11-12 and 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. June 13 at Aiea Elementary School cafeteria.Admission is $2. There’s a chicken sale from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. June 12.


* GABBARD LISTENS State Sen. Mike Gabbard hosts a “Listen Story” at 9 a.m. June 12 at Kapolei Starbucks by the Chevron station. Call 586-6830.

* GARDEN SUNDAY Oahu Urban Garden Center is open from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. June 12 at 955 Kamehameha Hwy. so visitors can learn tropical gardening techniques from volunteers who are master gardeners. Call 453-6050.

* COMPOST CLASS

Halawa Xeriscape Garden has a composting workshop at 10 a.m. June 12 at 99-1268 Iwaena St. Fee is $5. Call 748-5363 by June 10.

* SUNSET ON BEACH Waianae Coast has its 10th Sunset on the Beach from noon to 10 p.m. June 12-13 at Maili Beach Park with entertainment, food, crafts, rides, games, a movie each night and much more. Entertainers call 696-7998, crafters call 851-7800 and food vendors call 768-3888.
