Below are highlights of what’s coming up in West Oahu.

* BLOOD DRIVES Hawaii Blood Bank conducts donor drives from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. June 8 at Pali Momi hospital, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. June 8 at Hale Kalanianaole in Kapolei, 7 a.m.to 1 p.m.June 11 at Bank of Hawaii Kapolei and 7:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. June 20 at Waikele Center. Call 845-9966.

* GANIGAN BENEFIT The family of former world lightweight boxing champion Andy Ganigan plans a benefit for him from 4 to 9 p.m.June 8 at Ige’s Restaurant in Aiea. Tickets are $25. Proceeds will help with his medical bills. Call Michelle at 381-4000.

* KUNIA HEARING The City Planning Commission conducts a public hearing at 1:30 p.m. June 10 on a permit request from the Head Start program in Kunia Village. The hearing is in the City Council committee meeting room at Honolulu Hale. Call 768-8022.

* NEIGHBORS Ewa Neighborhood Board meets at 7 p.m. June 10 at Ewa Beach Library, and the Aiea board meets at 7:30 p.m. June 14 at Aiea Library. Call 768-3710.


 

* ORCHID SHOW Aiea Orchid Club has its 29th annual orchid show from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. June 11 and 12 and 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. June 13 at Aiea Elementary School cafeteria. There also will be a chicken sale from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. June 12. Show admission is $2.

* SOCCER TRYOUTS Kaoi Soccer Club holds try-outs June 12 for its upcoming season from 10 a.m. to noon (boys U8-U17) and 1 to 3 p.m. (girls U8-U17) at Central Oahu Regional Park’s MP5 Field. Call 626-2986 or visit http://www.kaoisoccer.com.

* GABBARD LISTENS State Sen. Mike Gabbard hosts a “Listen Story” at 9 a.m. June 12 at Kapolei Starbucks next to the Chevron station. Call 586-6830.

* GARDEN SUNDAY Oahu Urban Garden Center is open from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. June 12 at 955 Kamehameha Hwy. so visitors can learn tropical gardening techniques from volunteers who are master gardeners. Call 453-6050.

* PLANTATION DAY Hawaii’s Plantation Village hosts a “Portuguese Day on the Plantation"from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. June 12 in Waipahu, with music, food and cultural displays, including the Black Madonna wooden sculpture from Maui. Call 677-0110.

* COMPOST CLASS Halawa Xeriscape Garden conducts a workshop on composting from 10 a.m. to noon June 12 and 26 at 99-1268 Iwaena St. Fee is $5. Call 748-5363 by June 10.

* SUNSET ON BEACH Waianae Coast hosts its 10th annual Sunset on the Beach from noon to 10 p.m. June 12 and 13 at Maili Beach Park with nonstop entertainment, food, arts and crafts, rides, games, a movie each night and much more. * GOLF UPGRADES The city Department of Planning and Permitting conducts a public hearing at 10:30 a.m. June 15 at Ted Makalena Golf Course on a special management area use permit required to make improvements to the course. Planned are path realignment, grading, landscaping, a detention pond, new fence and pedestrian bridge repairs. The golf course is located at 93-059 Waipio Point Access Road. Call 768-8027.

* BALLROOM DANCE The Pearlridge chapter of Hawaii Ballroom Dance Association registers students for classes in night club two-step, cha cha and bolero at 7 p.m. June 15, 22, 29 and July 6, 13 and 20 at Waimalu Elementary School cafeteria. * DISNEY LUNCHEON Hawaii Society of Business Professionals discusses Aulani, Disney’s Resort & Spa at Ko Olina, in a luncheon at 11:30 a.m. June 17 in the Hawaii Prince Hotel’s Mauna Kea Ballroom.
