Below are highlights of what’s coming up in West Oahu.

* FUN RUN SIGNUPS Early entry deadline ($25) is Aug. 16 for the Waipahu Cane Haul 5K Run, set for Aug. 22 with proceeds supporting the Waipahu Community Coalition. The race begins on Waipahu Street and ends at Hawaii’s Plantation Village. Fee after Aug. 16 is $30. Call 397-7750.

* SCOUT SIGNUPS Waipahu Boy Scout Troop 76 has recruitment nights for boys ages 10-17 from 6:45 to 8 p.m. Aug. 17 at Kaleiopuu and Honowai elementary; Aug. 18 at Waikele Elementary; and Aug. 26 at Waipahu Elementary, all in the schools’ cafeterias. Scouts meet from 7 to 9 p.m. Fridays at Waipahu United Church of Christ. Call Diane Nishijima at 294-8013.

* CLOSURES All public schools and libraries close Aug. 20 in observance of Statehood Day.

* FUN DAY Pearl City Community Foundation sponsors a Family Fun Day from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Aug. 21 at Momilani Community Center with pony rides, a petting zoo, crafts, rides, inflatables, dunking and pie-throwing booths, food and non-stop entertainment - including the Royal Hawaiian Band at 2 p.m. Call 456-2073..

* ‘AUKAKE CLASSIC Special Olympics Hawaii has its 2010 ‘Aukake Classic soccer and bocce tournaments Aug. 21-22 at Waiau District Park. Call 943-8808 or visit specialolympicshawaii.org.

* AIR SHOW The Pacific Air Museum hosts “The Biggest Little Air Show on Ford Island” from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Aug. 21 and 22 with remote-control planes, food booths, candy “bombings, prizes, a free concert and tours of Hangar 79. Air show entry is free with museum admission. Call 441-1000.

* BLOOD DRIVES Hawaii Blood Bank has donor drives from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. Aug. 21 at the LDS Makakilo Stake center at 92-900 Makakilo Drive; 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Aug. 22 at Calvary Chapel Pearl Harbor; 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. Aug. 22 at Foodland Ewa Beach; 7:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Aug. 24 at Monsanto Co. in Kunia; 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Aug. 25 at Tony Group Autoplex; and 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Aug. 26 at the Kakuhihewa Building in Kapolei. * SENIOR SUMMIT Kaiser Permanente has a free Senior Summit lecture on plant-based nutrition at 10 a.m. Aug. 25 at its Waipio Clinic (94-1480 Moaniani St.). Call 432-2235.

* NEIGHBORS MakakiloKapolei-Honokai Hale Neighborhood Board meets at 7 p.m. Aug. 25 at Kapolei High School cafeteria. The Ewa board will not meet in August or September. Call 768-3710.

* RECYCLE SHOW The city Department of Environmental Services has its recycling educational display up during August at Waipahu Library. Call 675-0358.

* COLLECTION DRIVE Hawaii Self Storage at Pearl City (98-138 Hila Place) and Kapolei (488 Kamokila Blvd.) welcomes donations for Ho’omalu O Na Kamali’i, a children’s receiving home on the Leeward Coast. Needed are new clothing, blankets, towels, sports equipment, shoes, slippers, toys, school supplies, backpacks and arts and crafts. Call 521-9531, ext 224.

* BARBERS BOWLING Barbers Point Bowling is open to the public daily at 91-1259 Saratoga Ave. Bowling center hours are 10 a.m. to 11 p.m Sunday-Thursday, 10 a.m. to midnight Friday-Saturday (673-2695). The snack bar opens at 9 a.m. every day (673-2696).
