* HOUSE DEBATE Candidates for the 33rd District state House seat (Aiea-Halawa-Pearl City) Blake Oshiro and Gary Okino debate at 6:30 p.m. Aug. 23 on Hawaii Public Radio’s KIPO 89.3, taking questions from a live studio audience. Call 955-8821.

* MAYORAL FORUM Makakilo-Kapolei-Honokai Hale Neighborhood Board hosts a mayoral forum with candidates Kirk Caldwell, Peter Carlisle, Philmund Lee, Panos Prevedouros and Rod Tam at its regular meeting, 6:30 p.m. Aug. 25 at Kapolei High cafeteria. Prior to the forum, residents can meet candidates for state House Districts 40 (Royal Kunia-Makakilo-KapoleiKalaeloa) and 44 (Honokai Hale-Nanakuli-Lualualei), as well as Senate District 19 (Waikele-Village Park-Royal Kunia-Makakilo-KapoleiKalaeloa-Honokai Hale, portions of Waipahu-Ko Olina). * LIBRARY PROGRAMS Kapolei Library hosts a free talk by food writer Wanda Adams at 6 p.m. Aug. 25; teen crafts sessions on beaded bookmarks from 2 to 5 p.m.

* EWA TOWN HALL State Rep. Kymberly Pine hosts a town hall meeting at 7 p.m. Sept. 1 at Asing Park in lieu of the cancelled Ewa Neighborhood Board meetings. State DOT director Brennon Morioka will attend, and public issues will be discussed. Call 586-9730.

* IPU WORKSHOP Artist and conservationist Mahi LaPierre leads a workshop on making and playing traditional instruments from 9:30 a.m. to noon Sept. 4 at Malama Learning Center at Kapolei High School.
