Below are highlights of what’s coming up in West Oahu.

* DANCE CLASSES The Hawaii Ballroom Dance Association teaches classes in samba, fox trot and East Coast swing from 7 to 9 a.m. Mondays Oct. 4-Dec. 6 at Kapolei Elementary. Call 781-2076. * SPECIAL OLYMPICS Tesoro’s Kapolei and Pearl City gas stations welcome donations to Special Olympics Hawaii through Oct. 5 as part of its islandwide “Fueling Dreams” campaign to support the SO Holiday Classic in December. * SQUARE DANCING Pearl City Community Church hosts free squaredance classes at 5:30 p.m. Oct. 9 and 16 at 933 Lehua Ave., sponsored by Paradise Shufflers. Call 728-0301.


* TRIPLER HIKE Hawaiian Trail & Mountain Club leads a 12-mile advanced hike to the Koolau summit above Tripler hospital at 8 a.m. Oct. 10. Go to htmclub.org.

* OKINAWA CENTER Hawaii Okinawa Center marks its 20th anniversary from 2 to 4 :30 p.m. Oct. 23 with music and performances. Call 676-5400.

* DRUG RETURN Longs Drugs Pearl City accepts unused and expired medications from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Oct. 23 in the Hawaii Drug Take-back Program. Call 837-8470.

* COLLECTION DRIVE Hawaii Self Storage at Pearl City and Kapolei welcomes donations for Ho’omalu O Na Kamali’i, a children’s receiving home on the Leeward Coast. * KUNIA HEARING City planners hear a request at 10:30 a.m. Oct. 12 from Hawaii Agricultural Research Center for a permit to build a produce-irradiation facility at 92-1780 Kunia Road. The hearing is in the City Council committee meeting room at Honolulu Hale. Call 768-8024.
