Below are highlights of what’s coming up in West Oahu.

* ON STAGE The Cherry Blossom Festival contestants make an appearance between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. Feb. 10, and Kaipo Asing and Ohana entertain at 1 p.m. Feb. 11, both at Pearlridge Uptown. Call 488-0981.

* COLLEGE A free college planning workshop, which covers college selection and financial aid, is scheduled at 7 p.m. Feb. 7 at Kapolei High School. Each family that attends receives a free workbook. Call 692-8200.

* BOARDS The Ewa Neighborhood Board meets at 7 p.m. Feb. 8 at the Ewa Beach Library; the Aiea board meets at 7:30 p.m. Feb. 12 at Aiea Library. Call 527-5749.


* VALENTINE CARDS Waipio Center holds its ninth annual Valentine Card Contest for children of all ages with cash prizes in each age group. Judging is at 10 a.m. Feb. 8. Call 722-8487.

* GROUP HOUSING The city Department of Planning and Permitting holds a public hearing at 10 a.m. Feb. 9 in the City Hall Annex on a permit request for the Victory Ohana Prison Fellowship, which seeks to use a Pupuole Place apartment building for its program. Call 523-4256.

* MARLEY Hawaiian Waters Adventure Park presents Bob Fest 2007, a celebration of the life and music of Bob Marley from 7 p.m. Feb. 9 to 3 a.m. Feb. 10 with 25 reggae bands and DJs. Admission is $25 in advance, $30 at the gate. Call 551-9149.

* VALENTINE COLORS Kunia Shopping Center holds a Valentine coloring contest for children age 11 and under with cash prizes and gift cards for the best in each age group. Judging is at 10 a.m. Feb. 9 at Denny’s. Entries are available with the merchants.

* VALENTINE BREAKFAST Pearl City Lions Club holds its second annual Valentine’s Breakfast fundraiser from 6:30 to 11 a.m. Feb. 10 in the Pearl City Elementary School cafeteria. Cost is $5. A country store, plant sale, entertainment and eyeglasses collection are also planned. Call 384-0191 or 522-5522.


* CAR SEATS GEICO sponsors a free booster seat and child safety seat checkup from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Feb. 10 in the Kapolei parking lot of the state Department of Health. Call 537-9200.

* YMCA Leeward YMCA hosts a “Community Day” in which guests can participate in free exercise classes, swim in the heated pool and workout on the fitness equipment from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Feb. 10. There will also be giveaways and activities for the keiki. Call 671-6495.

* CONCERT The modern dance troupe River North Chicago performs at 4 p.m. Feb. 11 in Leeward Community College theater. Admission is $23 and $19. Call 455-0385.

* BLACK HISTORY In celebration of Black History Month, Pearl City Library (1138 Waimano Home Rd.) hosts a presentation by fiber artist Betty Fines at 2 p.m. Feb. 11. Fines will hold readings for ages 5 to adult, featuring people of African-American ancestry. She will also display the quilt of Harriet Tubman. Call 453-6566.

* VALENTINE DANCE In honor of Valentine’s Day, Ewa Beach Public and School Library (at Campbell High School) hosts “Dance Dance Revolution: Couple’s Challenge” at 2:45 p.m. Feb. 13. This free program featuring the Play Station 2 dance revolution game is designed for youths ages 12 to 19. Call 689-1204.

* BOE The state Board of Education holds a community meeting for the Campbell, Kapolei and Waianae complexes at 6:30 p.m. Feb. 14 at Maili Elementary School on issues affecting public education and the public libraries. Call 586-3349.

* AUTHOR Fantasy novelist Margaret Weis visits Kapolei Library at 6:30 p.m. Feb. 14. Weis also is behind popular games like Dungeons & Dragons and Battlestar Galactica. Call 693-7050.

* SCHOLARSHIPS Hawaii Self Storage is accepting college scholarship applications from seniors at Aiea, Pearl City, Kapolei and Waipahu. Deadline is Feb. 15. Call 836-1500.

* CLEANUP Hawaii Nature Center needs volunteers to help clean up and restore Waipahu’s Pouhala Marsh from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. Feb. 17. Call 955-0100, ext. 18.

* RECYCLING Aloha ‘Aina Earth Day #24 runs from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Feb. 17 in the Kapolei High School parking lot. All kinds of recyclables will be accepted, from large appliances to batteries, cans, ink cartridges and computers (one per household). Proceeds benefit the school. * GOLF HOSTS The Fields Open seeks hosts in the Ko Olina area to accommodate LPGA players and caddies from Feb. 19 to 24. Call 882-4039. * GOLF CLINIC Ko Olina Golf Club holds a junior golf clinic featuring LPGA players Paula Creamer, Juli Inkster and Angela Stanford at 4 p.m. Feb. 20. Admission and parking are free. * CLEANUP The City’s Department of Environmental Services is holding an Adopt-A-Block event at Waipahu High School from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. Feb. 20. Call 692-5208.

* DEEJAYS DJ Azteca from Mexico City and other guest deejays present Latin Night from 9 p.m. every Friday at Panama Hatties in Aiea, where applications are being taken through Feb. 23 for “Hawaii’s 1st Latino Idol” contest. (Contest will begin March 2.) Call 485-8226.

* COSMIC GOLF Jungle River Mini Golf hosts a Teen Night from 6:30 to 10:30 p.m. Feb. 23 at Pearlridge Center III, featuring cosmic golf, drinks and a live DJ. Admission is $12 to $15. Call 488-8808.

* VIDEO Deadlines for two student video contests are coming up: Entries for HMSA’s teen video contest on health issues should be in by March 1 (visit http://www.hmsa.com); and ‘Olelo offers a competition for all grades on issues affecting the community, country, state or world - with a March 2 deadline.
