Below are highlights of what’s happening in the West Oahu community in the next few weeks.

* The West Oahu Economic Development Association sponsors “Is Franchising for You?” from 7:30 to 9:30 a.m. June 28 in Kapolei High School faculty room. Fee is $20 for non-members. Call 842-1600.

* The city Planning Commission conducts a public hearing at 1:30 p.m. June 28 in the City Hall Annex to consider a special use permit to co-locate a tower used by three wireless companies on ag land in Ewa Beach. Call 523-4430.


* The state Department of Transportation presents an update on the high-capacity transit corridor project at 6 p.m. June 28 in the Aliamanu Middle School cafeteria. Call 566-2299.

* The 26th annual AYSO Rainbow Soccer Tournament runs June 30-July 4 at the Waipio Peninsula Soccer Complex, featuring dozens of games between local and mainland teams. Call 247-1422, ext. 3.

* The Iroquois Point Island Club presents the Patriot 5K Run/Walk at 8 a.m. July 1 at the club. Call 864-0113.

* The Hawaiian Trail & Mountain Club leads a 12-mile advanced hike at 8 a.m. July 2 to Waiau Ridge. Call 674-1459.

* The Firecracker Sprint Triathlon begins at 7 a.m. July 2 at Nimitz Beach, across from the Coast Guard Air Station at Kalaeloa. Call 864-0113.


* Award-winning slam poet Kealoha performs at 2:30 p.m July 5 at the Ewa Beach Library. Call 689-1204.

* The Nature Conservancy leads a hike along Palikea Trail in the Honouliuli Preserve at 8:30 a.m. July 9. Fee is $10. Call 587-6220.

* Public comments are due by July 10 to the city Department of Community Services on a proposal to create an adult day-health and child care facility at Momilani Community Center. For information on the draft environmental assessment, call Thomas Atou at 523-4495.

* The Hawaii Blood Bank holds area donor drives from 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. July 13 at the Kakuhihewa Building, 601 Kamokila Blvd. in Kapolei; noon to 3:30 p.m. July 14 at Hawaiian Electric Company’s Waiau facility at 475 Kamehameha Hwy.; and from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. July 18 at the Ihilani resort’s Malolo Room.
