* FOOTBALL REGISTRATION The Hawaii Athletic League of Scholars accepts registration through Sept. 8 for its Kapolei Storms tackle football team for ages 12-14 (no weight limit). Call 620-8523.

* STORYTIME Pearl City Library (1138 Waimano Home Road) hosts storytime for preschoolers ages 2-and-a-half and older at 9:30 a.m. Wednesdays, Sept. 5-Dec. 12; and for toddlers age 18 months and older at 9:30 a.m. Thursdays, Sept. 6-Dec. 13. Children must be accompanied by an adult. Call 453-6566.

* PALISADES MEETING The Pacific Palisades Community Association meets at 7 p.m. Sept. 5 at the community center, 2106 Aamanu St. Call 455-5182.

* WWII STORIES Aiea Library presents “The Japanese Zero Pilot Who Terrorized the Secluded Island of Niihau: December 1941” at 6:30 p.m. Sept. 6. Patricia Beekman will share the story her late father, author Allan Beekman, detailed in his book The Niihau Incident, about a Japanese Zero fighter pilot who crash-landed on Niihau. Call 483-7333.

* BALLET LESSONS Ballet Hawaii conducts classes for girls and boys of all ages at Island Pacific Academy beginning Sept. 6. Call 521-8600.

* SQUARE DANCE Free square dance lessons are offered for ages 9 through adult Thursday nights at Ewa Beach Community Park, across from Campbell High School. New 10-week sessions begins Sept. 6 for a $30 fee (beginners at 7 p.m., advanced at 8:30). Call 358-9131 or 689-0370.

* FREEWAY TALK State Rep. Rida Cabanilla hosts a community meeting at 6:30 p.m. Sept. 6 at Asing Park (91-1450 Renton Road) to discuss public-private partnerships for freeway-lane construction. A presentation and slide show will follow on the new Tampa tollway by Panos Prevedouros, a UH-Manoa civil engineering professor. Call 586-6080.

* ART FOR PEACE Two-dimensional art work will be accepted through Sept. 7 for the Expressions of Peace display at the state Capitol, set for Sept. 21, Hawaii’s first Peace Day.
