Below are highlights of what’s happening in the West Oahu community in the next few weeks.

* The Hawaii Blood Bank holds area donor drives from 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. July 13 at the Kakuhihewa Building, 601 Kamokila Blvd. in Kapolei; noon to 3:30 p.m. July 14 at HECO’s Waiau facility at 475 Kamehameha Hwy.; and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. July 18 at the Ihilani resort’s Malolo Room. Call 845-9966.

* Area neighborhood boards meeting this month include the Ewa board, 7 p.m. July 13 at Ewa Beach Library; Pearl City board,6:30 p.m. July 25 at Highlands Intermediate; and Makakilo board, 7 p.m. July 26 in the Kapolei High cafeteria. Call 527-5749.

* The Urban Garden Center observes the Filipino centennial July 15-29 with and educational garden of Filipino vegetables, herbs, shrubs and fruit trees.An open house runs from 9 a.m. to noon July 15 with tours, demonstrations, music and a plant sale The garden center is at 955 Kamehameha Hwy. Call 453-6059.


* The Hawaii State Farm Fair is open July 20-23 and 28-30 on the Kapolei fairgrounds at the corner of Farrington Highway and Fort Barrett Road, offering food, fun, rides, produce, livestock exhibits, flowers, plants, chef demonstrations and much more. Call 848-2074.

* The Pacific Music Institute presents free public concerts at 7 p.m.

July 21 and 22 at Pearl City Cultural Center to highlight what students have learned in music training that began at PCC July 15. Call the Honolulu Youth Symphony at 941-9706.

* The Nature Conservancy conducts a 3-mile, moderate hike into the Honouliuli Preserve from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. July 23. Fee is $10. The conservancy manages the 3,692-acre preserve for Campbell Estate. Call 587-6220.

* The Rissho Kosei Kai Hawaii Kyokai hosts its bon dances at 6:30 p.m. July 21-22 at 2280 Auhuku St. in Pearl City. Call 455-3212.


* The SBA sponsors two programs in Kapolei on July 27: a free government contracting workshop at 9 a.m. and a “Business Loan Blitz"from 11 a.m.to 2:30 p.m.Both are at Kapolei Hale. For workshop reservations or a “loan blitz” appointment, call 541-3024.

* The Hawaii Women’s Rodeo Association presents a rodeo from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. July 29 at Barbers Point Stables Arena, featuring all ages - male and female - competing in barrel racing, pole bending and more. Call Sandy at 780-5091 or 526-1708.

* State Reps. Lyla Berg and Roy Takumi brief the public at 10 a.m. July 29 on 2006 legislation affection early childhood education. The meeting will be at Seagull School at Kapolei,531 Farrington Hwy.Call 531-5502.
