A Fairy Princess Affair, a business known for coordinating keiki birthday parties featuring dress-up clothes, has opened a kiosk on the first floor of Pearlridge Mall Uptown.

“We think that Pearlridge Mall is the best fit for our business and products because it is so family-oriented,” said Princess co-owner Vicki Liao.“Its Keiki Club is popular with local families and children, and so are the other children-related places such as Gymboree and Tilt.”

Owners Liao and Aimee Peterson held a grand opening for the kiosk Aug. 1, with sales on costumes and accessories. Some highlighted fashions are handmade fairy and princess costumes that Peterson’s mother, Roanna Barkin, makes. Factory-made accessories they stock are ballerina tutus, ballet shoes, leotards, crowns, tiaras, gloves, princess gowns, Tinkerbell pixie dresses, purses and wands. For the next couple of months leading up to Halloween, the kiosk is selling costumes for boys and girls which include cowgirl, cowboy, poodle skirts, genie, mermaid, bumble bee, Snow White, woodsman, army, knight and Zorro.

The focus of Fairy Princess Affair is organizing keiki parties for the princess birthday girl. Fairy Princess brings the party to your location after taking reservations at the kiosk. Parties also may be held at a spa or a tea room.

The birthday girl’s party features costumes the keiki can keep such as princesses, fairies, wizards and pirates. Liao and Peterson provide two hours of entertainment which includes hair and makeup for the girls while the boys play pirate games. All party packages include music and games. Additional activities are storytelling with puppets and a crowning ceremony for the birthday girl. Girls make their own crowns or wands, and boys make pirate swords or eye patches to keep. “It’s very popular and fun,” added Liao.

A Fairy Princess Affair will man a booth from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Oct. 13 at Island Pacific Academy’s Craft and Keiki Fair at 909 Haumea St. in Kapolei. For more information on its services, log onto www.fairyprincesshawaii.com or call 235-2860.
