Bring all furried, feathered and perhaps even scaly friends, big and small, to St. Nicholas Episcopal Church’s 10 a.m. service this Sunday at Island Pacific Academy in Kapolei for some spiritual attention at the annual Blessing of the Animals.

“The bond between a person and his or her pet is a special gift from God,” said Rev. Paul Klitzke, St. Nicholas’ priest. “We are pleased to be able to celebrate this bond at this service each year.”

The service is conducted in the spirit of St. Francis of Assisi, the patron saint of animals. Treats and water will be on hand for cats and dogs. Their human owners also are in for a treat - the blessing coincides with the church’s monthly Ice Cream Sunday service where worshipers can enjoy free ice cream after the morning services.
