To help Hawaii’s homeless keiki gear up for the upcoming school year, Locations Foundation is set to hold its annual Backpack to School drive July 6 to 9 at Prudential Locations’ Pearlridge office (98-161 Kaonohi St.) and at the kiosk in Pearlridge Uptown Center.

Commemorating the 40th anniversary of Prudential Locations LLC in Hawaii, this year’s goal is to collect enough school supplies to fill 1,000 backpacks. The public is asked to donate items such as Elmer’s glue (sticks and 4-ounce bottles) and writing supplies - No. 2 pencils, black pens, red pencils and fine-point black markers.

Other desirable items include composition books, folder paper, white erasers, binders, rulers and 24-packs of Crayola crayons.

“It’s heartbreaking to know that thousands of keiki start school without basic supplies,” said James Chan, chairman of Backpack to School and partner at Prudential Locations. “For nearly 10 years, our Backpack to School event has provided children at homeless shelters with the tools necessary to succeed in school.”

Donations also will be accepted at any of the company’s open houses on July 4 and 11.
