Kapolei Library offers free events for families this summer in celebration of the 2010 HSPLS Children’s Summer Reading Program, presented through a generous grant from Target.

Keiki Storytimes: Summer 2010 is conducted from 10 to 10:45 a.m. Mondays and Thursdays through Aug. 28 and will include stories, fingerplays and songs. A special family storytime featuring guest readers will be held this Thursday, June 17, in observance of Child Abuse Prevention Awareness Month.

Parents or a caregiver must accompany children to storytimes, and each child will receive a free goody bag.

Also on the horizon:

* June 19 - The Kenny Endo Taiko Ensemble demonstrates and discusses the art of performing with Japanese drums.

* June 26 - Mad Science of Hawaii presents “The Fire and Ice Spectacular!,” a fast-paced, high-energy and educational demo of science experiments involving fire and dry ice.

* July 2 - The Aloha Clowns stage some good clean fun with “The Amazing Magical Bubble Show.”

Each event begins at 10:30 a.m. Call the library at 693-7050 two weeks in advance if a sign language interpreter or other special accommodations are needed.
