Registration is being accepted now for the second annual Waipahu Cane Haul 5K Run/Walk, to be held Aug. 22.

The race starts at 7 a.m. on Waipahu Street and heads north toward Manager’s Drive, taking runners and walkers on a scenic route along Hiapo Street through old Waipahu town before ending at the historic Hawaii Plantation Village.

Individual entry fees are $20 by Aug. 2; $25 if received Aug. 3-16; and $30 for entry on the day of the race. Group rates also are available.

To download an entry form, visit canehaulrun.blogspot.com, or for more information, call 397-7750.

Sponsored by the Waipahu Community Coalition, Weed & Seed - Waipahu and the Volunteer Resource Center of Hawaii, the race will benefit the Waipahu Community Coalition’s efforts to provide drug-free events for families and children.

“We are supporting this event so that everyone can get to know the real Waipahu,” said Sgt. Shellie Paiva of CPT/Weed & Seed - Waipahu. “Waipahu is a gathering place for people of all races and ages, a place full of history, and a place many call home.”

Drivers should note roads near and along the race route will be closed from 6 to 11 a.m.
