A book signing in Honolulu next weekend will benefit agriculture students at Campbell High School, thanks to an ongoing partnership between the school and chef Alan Wong.

A champion of buying and eating local produce, Wong will donate a portion of his book sales Jan. 8 to the school’s Agriculture Learning Center.

That day he will autograph copies of The Blue Tomato: The Inspirations Behind the Cuisine of Alan Wong at the event, which begins at 1 p.m. at Barnes & Noble at Ala Moana. Also planned is a discussion and side-by-side tasting of a dish prepared with locally sourced vs. imported ingredients.

Campbell’s program offers a variety of hands-on courses and a hydroponics nursery that supplies vegetables to Wong’s restaurants.

Customers should mention Campbell High at the register, or go to http://www.thebluetomato.net to download a voucher for it.

The 284-page book is Wong’s second effort. It shares the award-winning chef’s personal journey and the inspiration behind Hawaii Regional Cuisine.
