A ground-floor unit opened up at Westgate Shopping Plaza, and Laverne Villanueva, owner of upstairs businesses LCD Travel Services Inc. and Flyin’ High, jumped at the opportunity.

“I had the travel agency for 22 years, and I always dreamed of a ground-floor place,” said Villanueva. “So when it opened up I decided to take it, and that meant taking up the snack shop too.”

Now Villanueva operates her many business ventures from this new space, including Da Snack Shop.

A month into operations, Villanueva said that the shop is doing very well, and she credits it to great food and a great location.

“We’re located right across from the school (Waipahu Intermediate). After school is the busiest.”

The most popular items are shave ice, the KC original waffle hot dogs, noodles, lumpia, bentos from Ige’s Catering Services, halohalo and fruity milkshakes.

“The kids love the fruity milkshakes,” Villanueva said. “We put ice cream and fresh fruits like strawberry and bananas.”

Da Snack Shop hours are 6:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday, and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday. It is closed on Sunday.
