CrossFit Ewa Beach celebrates its new Kapolei location with a day-long grand opening party this Sunday.

Owned and operated by Noel Famy and fiancée Se Young Cho, the CrossFit program is a strength and conditioning workout based on constant, varied, functional movements executed at a high intensity scalable to every fitness level.

“Imagine a high-intensity workout incorporating fundamental movement of daily life into a gym using weights, gymnastics, cardio, core development and endurance,” said Mike McClay, CrossFit Ewa Beach coach.

CrossFit is class-based, he added, but open gym times are available for unlimited members. Also offered is an On Ramp program designed for those newly introduced to CrossFit and includes 12 classes. For more on the schedule of classes and programs, contact Cho at 779-0058 or e-mail .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address).

Special discounts are available for state, county and military personnel and spouses.

“We maximize our optimal performance, so there’s never a routine with the workouts,” said Cho. “None of our members knows what they’re going to work on until they show up. You show up, and there’s a surprise element, and I like that.”

Classes are limited to 10 people to allow each member personalized coaching. As McClay explained: “When you break it down to the level of attention you’re getting, you’re really optimizing your workout. It’s like having a personal trainer that at most you have to share with nine other people.”

The gym also includes a keiki play area that’s free to all members.

“We’re all about building the community,” said Young. “A lot of women have to sacrifice working out to watch the children, but we encourage them to bring them and show them that mommy is working out - show them that you are doing good for yourself and setting a good example.”

CrossFit Ewa Beach is located at 2114 Lauwiliwili St., Suite 102B in Kapolei.

The gym is currently searching for Hawaii’s Fittest Athletes to compete in its 2010 CrossFit Games Hawaii Sectionals March 13 and 14. Open to all ages and abilities, athletes can register at http://games2010.crossfit.co m.

The top six competitors (three men and three women) will go on to represent Hawaii at the Southwest Regional Competition in Orange County.
