Kaneolani Elementary School PTA looked into the future, saw a lack of computers, and started planning a benefit golf tournament.

The Waipio Gentry school will have its second annual tourney, Drive to the Top, Oct. 8 at Waikele Golf Course, and funds raised will go into its computer fund.

According to organizers, the DOE will require students to take the Hawaii State Assessment test online during this school year, plus its curriculum features several online programs and integrated technology. With an average of 750 children - and more than half of them expected to take the HAS - the tournament is vital to its success.

Shotgun start is at 12:30 p.m., followed by contests, prizes, lunch and a banquet. Sponsorships also are available.

For more information or to register, call event chairwoman Mislyn Alensonorin at 371-1769.
