Everyone knows the holidays have arrived when the Pearlridge Express comes chugging into town.

The train, which seats 15 keiki (under 48 inches tall) at at time, opened at Uptown Center Court Nov. 19 as part of a giant wonderland display. It is available for holiday rides through Jan. 2, thanks in part to affiliate Oahu Railway and Land Co. A portion of the $3 ride tickets and 10-ride booklets ($25) will benefit the Ewa-based Hawaiian Railway Society, and docents from the society will be aboard to share information about the Pearlridge Express and the Oahu Railway and Land Co.

Ride hours are 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. through today (Nov. 24), 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Nov. 26-Dec. 23, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Dec. 24, and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Dec. 26-Jan. 2.

The ride and mall will be closed Thanksgiving and Christmas Day.

Other holiday happenings at Pearlridge include:

* Santa’s Arrival on Nov. 26. The parade featuring St. Nick, holiday characters and the Aiea High School Marching Band begins at 8:30 a.m. in Uptown and concludes by 9 in Downtown.

* The Salvation Army Angel Tree will be up in Uptown, first floor, from Nov. 26 to Dec. 19 to help needy children or senior citizens. Shoppers can offer a donation to place an angel on the tree.

* Photos with Santa happen Nov. 26-Dec. 24, and the island’s only deaf and signing Santa visits from 9 a.m. to noon Dec. 9.

* Musicians, dancers and carolers perform on the Uptown second floor throughout the season, beginning with a performance by the Maria Lauer Voice Studio from 1 to 2 p.m. Nov. 28.

Mall hours will be extended throughout the season to accommodate holiday shopping. The mall will be open 6 a.m.-9 p.m. Nov. 26; 9 a.m.-9p.m. Nov. 27-Dec. 9; 9 a.m.-10 p.m. Dec. 10-16; 9 a.m.-11 p.m. Dec. 17-23; 9 a.m.-6 p.m. Dec. 24; 8 a.m.-6 p.m. Dec. 26; 10 a.m.-9 p.m. Dec. 27-30; and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Dec. 31-Jan. 2.
