Hawaii Self Storage vice president Shaun Salvador and company mascot Mr. Safety awarded college scholarships to 12 public high school students from across Oahu in a ceremony last month at HSS’s Pearl City facility.

Among the 2010 scholars are Kyley Umetsu of Aiea, who plans to attend HPU and major in nursing; Nicole Talion of Kapolei, who will attend USC and major in business economics; Kiera Hirayama of Moanalua, who will attend Creighton University and study nursing; Sean Luster of Pearl City, who plans to attend Colorado State and major in marketing; and Charissa Waiaiae of Waipahu, who will major in Hawaiian studies at UHManoa.

Each recipient will receive annually renewable $1,000 scholarships to go toward their college pursuits over a two-year (associate’s degree) or four-year (bach-elor’s degree) period.

To date, HSS has committed nearly $250,000 to this program since its inception in 2004.

“HSS understands the importance of education in helping students develop into leaders who will make a difference in the community,” Salvador said. “We are committed to continuing our scholarship program and to providing students with financial resources needed to help them achieve their educational dreams.”
