A “Nourishing Your Neighborhood” recycling drive is planned for 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at Kanoelani Elementary School, adding a canned food drive for Hawaii Foodbank to the community recycling effort, as well as welcoming “an unlimited number” of computers and e-waste.

Cub Scout Pack 167 is assisting.

Residents can bring all kinds of metal scrap and appliances, HI-5 containers, cooking oil, cell phones, printer cartridges, phone books, magazines and batteries to the school parking lot, 94-1091 Oli Loop in Waipio Gentry. Goodwill and Lions Clubs will make use of any donated clothing, household items, hearing aids and eyeglasses. Donors also may exchange two incandescent light bulb for two CFLs. For details, call Walleen Hirayama at 675-0195 or Rene Mansho at 306-1876.

The mini drive is coordinated by Mansho of Schnitzer Steel, a Campbell Industrial Park metal recycler that, with other sponsors, will give cash proceeds from the drive to the school. New to the effort is United Environmental Services, which will take cardboard, plastic bags and bottles.

Community drives still ahead in West Oahu are at Leeward Community College Nov. 6 and at Kapolei High School Dec. 4.
