The recently announced city furlough policy will affect West Oahu residents directly at Kapolei Hale and two of its largest parks - Central Oahu Regional Park and Waipio Soccer Complex.

All three will be closed two Fridays per month for the next fiscal year - except for prescheduled tournaments at the parks and walk-in voting at Kapolei Hale.

Satellite city halls, various permit offices, gyms, recreation centers and public swimming pools also will be closed on the following Fridays to save money: July 2, 23; Aug. 6, 27; Sept. 3, 24; Oct. 8, 29; Nov. 12, 26: Dec. 10, 17; Jan. 14, 28, 2011; Feb. 11, 25; March 4, 18; April 15, 29; May 13, 20; and June 3, 24.

“It’s been very clear for months that we’d have to begin furloughs in the new fiscal year,” Mayor Mufi Hannemann said June 15, “and we’ve worked very hard with our employees to minimize any impact on the public.”
