Local Nonprofits Real Winners At Sony Open

The success of the 2010 Sony Open PGA Tour golf tournament spilled over into a $1 million gift to island nonprofits, as distributed through Friends of Hawaii Charities Inc. and matched by the Harry & Jeanette Weinberg Foundation with help from individual donors.

Awards were given out May 26 at Bishop Museum to more than 150 local charities that have projects helping women, children and the elderly.

Among the West Oahu recipients are Ahahui Siwila Hawaii O Kapolei, Battleship Missouri Memorial, Kahi Mohala, Kapiolani Medical Center at Pali Momi and Lighthouse Outreach Center Assembly of God.
