West Oahu residents can join the global response to Haiti’s devastating earthquake by donating blood locally and sending money to the Red Cross.

Checks made out to American Red Cross can be mailed to ARC, Hawaii state chapter, at 4155 Diamond Head Road, Honolulu HI 96816, with a memo to “Haiti relief effort.”

Customers can text “Haiti” to 90999 on their cell phones to send a $10 donation (which will be reflected on their phone bill). Residents may also donate to the ARC International Response Fund at http://www.redcross.org or by calling 1-800-RED-CROSS.

The Red Cross also is getting units of blood and blood products to the shattered island nation for evacuees and patients. For more information about donating blood, call Hawaii Blood Bank at 845-9966. (See “Highlights” for area blood drives.)
