Ewa Beach-based nonprofit Child & Family Service recently won a one-year $18,500 grant from the national membership organization Alliance for Children and Families to serve as a mentor to a peer organization. CFS will mentor Family Service Association of San Antonio, Texas, to address the needs, desires and contributions of the elderly.

The grant comes as part of the New Age of Aging, a major five-year initiative designed to help prepare human service organizations to better serve older adults as well as utilize their assets through volunteerism and professional assistance.

CFS was one of 10 agencies in the nation to be selected for the grant, which, according to president and CEO Howard Garval, will enable the agency to “share our expertise and help strengthen the profession.”
