The Campbell High School Girls Soccer Teams were recognized by Sen. Will Espero (Ewa Beach to Waipahu) last month. Espero congratulated the Sabers for “practicing long and hard, and honing their individual and team skills” resulting in an excellent season. The varsity team placed third in the national finals, and both the JV and varsity teams won their respective state Oahu Interscholastic Association and regional division championships.

Campbell seniors Waianae Kahananui, Trankie Hagos and Desiree Agngarayngay were recognized by Sen. Espero earlier this month for winning the Overall Grand Prize in the annual statewide public school Island Movie contest. Their video Reality Under the Smile “drew tears from judges and audiences alike, (with its depiction of Kahananui’s) story of breaking through the tragedy of family and environment to become JCHS (James Campbell High School) president.” Media adviser Oscar Ramiscal, who oversaw the project, was also recognized.

Also from Campbell High,Lowen Tynanes-Perez received a certificate from Sen. Espero for his victorious wrestling season. Tynanes-Perez took first place in the state and third place in the world in the 10th annual Cliff Keen Championships in Reno. He is the Hawaii High School Athletic Association champion, the Oahu Interscholastic Association champion and the second-place finisher in the OIA Western Division Tournament. He was also named All Star Player of the Year. Tynanes-Perez (with a 31-2 record) is on the OIA Western Division First Team, and is only in his second year of wrestling at Campbell High. He also plays football as a running back for the JCHS varsity football team.
