Three West Oahu high school students won travel scholarships for their just-completed Freeman Foundation training and summer study tour of Vietnam.
The Pacific and Asian Affairs Council gave awards valued at $4,000 to Codi Kelii and Katie Pham, both of Campbell High, and Brett Tanonaka of Aiea High. They joined 19 other Hawaii students on June 14 for two weeks in Vietnam, preceded by a week of preparation here in Hawaii. Campbell social studies teacher Kin Ching Cheng accompanied the group as a chaperon.
The private, nonprofit PAAC promotes increased understanding of world affairs, particularly Asia-Pacific issues, by sponsoring speaker forums and conferences, facilitating cross-cultural exchange of international visitors, and conducting global education outreach to Hawaii students.
