In an effort to provide much-needed funds to public and private school teachers for innovative learning opportunities, the Chevron Hawaii Education Fund is now accepting applications for its 2010 grant opportunities.

Through a joint effort by Chevron (based locally at Campbell Industrial Park in Kapolei) and the Hawaii Science Teachers Association, grants for $100 to $1,000 will be awarded to projects that demonstrate active, rather than passive, learning; engage students in project-based studies; and are ongoing activities rather than a one-time event such as a field trip.

Funds are intended for materials, supplies, equipment or transportation for project-based learning. Food and T-shirts are not allowable expenses.

Classroom teachers statewide who teach in grades K-12 are eligible to apply. Teachers may only submit one application per grant submission round.

Grants will be made payable to the school for the benefit of the teacher’s project. Schools that have previously received funding are eligible to reapply if all Final Report requirements are completed.

Deadline to apply is May 17, and awardees will be announced by June 30. For more information or to apply, visit http://www.hasta.us and click on the link “Chevron Grants.”
