Tamura’s Enterprises Inc. is expanding with a Tamura’s Supermarket, which will make its way to Kalaeloa later this year.

The company recently signed a lease to take over the now-closed Naval Air Station Barbers Point Commissary at 91-1051 Enterprise Ave.

“I am excited about this because Kapolei and Ewa are growing by leaps and bounds. It is in a perfect location, five minutes from the freeway,” said Tamura’s president Glenn Tamura.

An estimated $500,000 is going into renovations and equipment preparation for the 12,000-square-foot supermarket space.

When it opens, the store will be the third full-service Tamura’s Supermarket on Oahu. (Others are in Wahiawa and Hauula, and Tamura’s also has wine/liquor stores located in Aiea, Kaimuki and Kailua.)

Tamura’s has consistently worked with the communities where they are located, and the same is planned for the Kalaeloa location.

“We do a lot with the community, especially directed toward education and literacy,” Tamura said, “and we want to do the same for the Kapolei/Ewa area.”
