Veterans’ Ceremony Returns To Mighty Mo

Del.icio.usThe Battleship Missouri is honoring Veteran’s Day Thursday (Nov. 11) with a sunset ceremony that’s free to the public.
The hourlong event will begin at 4:45 p.m. on the ship’s fantail and will feature the 50 a cappella voices of The Sounds of Aloha Barbershop Chorus, whose performance will include the classic Hawai’i Pono’i, God Bless America and the Armed Forces Medley.
Also scheduled for the ceremony are the U.S. Pacific Fleet Band, Parade of Colors, traditional military Echo Taps and a rifle volley salute.
Keynote speaker will be Maj. Gen. Robert G.F. Lee, Hawaii Adjutant General, who directs various military organizations and is the governor’s adviser on home-land security issues.
This is the first time the annual ceremony will be celebrating on the vessel after it was canceled last year due to the dry-docking of the Mighty Mo.
The public will have driving access to Ford Island from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m., as well as free shuttle bus service from 3:45 to 4:45 p.m. at the Missouri shuttle station at Pearl Harbor Visitors Center. Return transportation also will be provided.
