Many volunteers gave up part of their Thanksgiving holiday to make sure that others had Thanksgiving treats.

On Thanksgiving Day, Lanakila Meals on Wheels delivered more than 150 meals to homebound seniors throughout the island, including many in West Oahu. Meals on Wheels volunteers delivered tasty Thanksgiving meals to residences in Aiea, Halawa, Kapolei, Pearl City, Waipahu and Waipio.

The leadership development and service organization, Rising Phoenix Jaycees, has been volunteering with Meals on Wheels for nearly 20 years. Current members of the group, as well as past members, gathered at the distribution center the Seventh-day Adventist Church in Aiea to help out again this year.

Volunteers packed meals, coordinated driving routes and delivered the food.

The feast included turkey, mashed potatoes, vegetables, dinner rolls, juice and cake. Each meal recipient also was presented with a Christmas card and a small care package.
