Gov. Linda Lingle has released $17.25 million to the Department of Education for capital improvement projects and new construction at public schools on Oahu, Maui, Lanai and the Big Island.

Among the four awarded schools is Webling Elementary in Aiea, which got $250,000 for the construction of two portable classrooms. The total cost of the project is estimated to be $872,000.

Lingle previously released design and construction funds in 2007 and 2009 to Webling for this project. The additional funds are needed for completion.

“As part of our ongoing effort to stimulate the economy and create jobs,” Lingle said, “we remain focused on accelerating public construction projects, especially the repair and maintenance of our schools as well as new construction to meet the needs of growing communities throughout the state.”
