Pulmonologist Kevin Hara, who practices at Pali Momi in Aiea, will discuss highlights from this past February’s Hawaii Thoracic Society Conference at a meeting celebrating 2010 as International Year of the Lung at 10 a.m. to noon March 12 at Kaiser Honolulu (1010 Pensacola St.). The public is welcome, and there is no charge to attend. Pre-registration is encouraged to ensure adequate materials will be available. Kapolei Middle School art students have received top honors in the first international Frog Art Contest, held Dec. 8 in Manassas, Va., by the nonprofit Save the Frogs.

Tokino Springer, 12, took first-place in the 10-13 year-old category; Liann Cagle, 15, won the 13-17 category; and Paul Andrew Viernes, 13, received a honorable mention. Teacher Daryle Mishina also was given an honorable mention.


 

“It was great to see such great art coming from Hawaii, the only state without native frog populations,” noted Dr. Kerry Kriger, who heads Save the Frogs.

The contest received entries from 10 countries worldwide.

Makakilo resident Brooks Bowman as been hired as project developer for RevoluSun, Hawaii’s premier residential solar integrator.

Bowman, who also is the owner of Hawaii Discount Mortgage, brings more than 10 years of sales experience to RevoluSun. In his new position, he will be responsible for working with homeowners to determine the best solar systems and financing options available to meet their needs.

Washington State University has announced the students who were named to its spring and fall President’s Honor Roll for 2009. Those from West Oahu include:


Aiea - Katrina Kimiko Higa, Cheryl E. Kobayashi, Laurie Akemi Nii and Scott Keoni Shigeoka (spring and fall); and Valerie Heu (fall).

Ewa Beach - Kimberly Dimacali Dela Cruz, Gwynne Heather PalacioManzano and Kevin Young (spring and fall)

Kapolei - Cameron Alexander Moody (spring); and Lorifel Yanga Nabong, Daniel Hyun Shin, Bryson Katsumi Tamanaha and Kevin Hiroshi Yokomura (spring and fall).

Pearl City - Keora Katarina Flanary-Olayvar (spring); Karla Nicole Hao Yin Lee and Connie Ngai San Ng (fall); and Chimene Marie Sienkiewicz and Lissa S. Watanabe (spring and fall).

Waipahu - Kryssa Ayami Isobe, Robyn Akie Nakamoto, Stacy Y. Sasaki and Christina Kay Song (fall).
