Workshop To Discuss Anti-drug, Safety Tips

Hawaii Laulima Pacific, Zippys Inc. and Pepsico Hawaii will present a free “Protect Our Keiki” workshop from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, (Aug. 9) at Hawaii Okinawa Center to educate parents and children about drug trends as well as the dangers of the Internet.

U.S. Attorney Florence Nakakuni introduce the program, followed by a discussion of dangerous drug trends by Gary Shimabukuro of Laulima Pacific. FBI special agent Arnold La’anui will discuss Internet safety.


Topics to be covered in the drug education segment include abuse of prescription medications, inhalants, huffing, various street drugs, abuse of cold medications and the signs and symptoms of drug use.

The Internet safety discussion will review online dangers, such as identity theft, cyberbullying and cyberseduction and their consequences.

Dinner will be provided to attendees at no cost.


The workshop also will offer informational tables and displays from D.A.R.E., the National Guard Counterdrug Program, the U.S. Attorney’s Weed and Seed Program, Coalition for a Drug Free Hawaii, Zippys, The Pepsi Bottling Group and more.
