More than 200 community members attended Waipahu Aloha Clubhouse’s 10th anniversary celebration Dec. 1, where they enjoyed lunch. Community leaders like Sens. Clarence Nishihara and Will Espero were on hand to offer words of praise for the clubhouse’s work in supporting individuals who live with severe and persistent mental illness. The clubhouse, a state Department of Health program, enables its members to enjoy productive lives in their community by maintaining a relationship with family and friends, as well as gaining employment and education. Participants also learn skills like using the computer or cooking a meal.
