The surf and sun welcomed more than 65 volunteers and 35 participants to AccesSurf’s one-year anniversary with a “Day at the Beach” celebration on Nov. 3. In addition to a potluck picnic at Kalaeloa’s White Plains Beach, participants entered the surf with the help of volunteers including pro surfers Keone Downing, Buttons Kaluhiokalani and many more. AccesSurf Hawaii is a nonprofit organization that helps people with disabilities to enjoy the waves. They have surfboards, tandem surf-boards and wave skis that are adapted for those with disabilities. “Day at the Beach” happens at White Plains Beach on the first Saturday of each month.
