Palolo Chinese Home celebrated the Year of the Rat by hosting a Chinese New Year celebration Jan. 27 at the Pearl City Cultural Center. Hundreds of party-goers, including more than 200 world-famous musical and dancing children from six provinces in China, made it out to the event to enjoy food, live entertainment and even a traditional lion and dragon dance or two! The event was sponsored by the United Chinese Coalition, Honolulu Chinatown Lions Club, Dragon Tours and Travel Inc., and the Ernest Chang Piano Studio. All proceeds from ticket sales benefited residents of Palolo Chinese Home, the oldest Asian care home in the United States, which originally opened in 1896 in Chinatown.
