Waipahu Festival Marketplace pulled out all the stops Feb. 16 for the dawning of the year of the rat. Festival revelers and regular shoppers alike were treated to a traditional Chinese New Year celebration complete with a lion dance, firecrackers and martial arts. The 2008 Narcissus Queen Catherine Wong Jayne and her court also made a special appearance before the happy crowd. Various displays, a bulb cutting presentation and booths of delicious treats, including noodles, fresh fish and spring produce, flooded the floor. The Waipahu Festival Marketplace is open from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. week-days, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturdays and 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sundays and holidays at 94-340 Waipahu Depot Road. Call 677-6939 for more.
