The Niihau Room of the Sheraton Waikiki was a sight to see Jan. 26 when board directors of the Harry & Jeanette Weinberg Foundation gathered with Child & Family Service members for a special luncheon celebrating the recent donation of $1.55 million to the Ewa Beach-based nonprofit. CFS director of development and communications Sandra Oba said attendees were especially excited to see MidWeek photographer Nathalie Walker, since president and trustee Shale Stiller along with the entire Weinberg Foundation board had made the trip in from the Mainland just for this event. Funds will be used to build a new emergency shelter and transitional housing facility in Leeward Oahu for families affected by domestic abuse. Oba said that with the Weinberg gift, CFS has only $30,000 left to raise, which they expected would be achieved by the end of this month.
