On Dec. 16, government officials and members of the Filipino community shared in the making of history at the FilCom Center. In honor of the Filipino Centennial, committee chair Roland Casamina conducted the ceremonial filling of a time capsule that will be opened in 2106. Various objects were placed in the capsule to document the Filipino experience in Hawaii. Treated to last in storage and sealed for posterity are photos of families, groups and individuals, as well as CDs, an ipod, a DVD of Emme Tomimbang’s film Mabuhay With Aloha, and documents including family histories. “There are photos of kindergarten kids in Waipahu area schools,” said publicity chair Linda Dela Cruz. “One hundred years from now, hopefully those kids will have their kids open it.”
