In honor of its new administration building, Hale Kalanianaole, the Department of Hawaiian Home Lands held a dedication ceremony and ho’olaule’a on Prince Kuhio Day, March 26. Festivities kicked off with a ho’okupu processional, in which dignitaries, Hawaiian societies and homesteaders from across the state made their way from Kapolei High School, up along Kapolei Parkway and concluded at DHHL’s new home in East Kapolei. Hundreds of West Oahu residents joined in on the fun with live entertainment from the likes of Karen Keawehawaii, Ho’okena, Robi Kahakalau and Martin Pahinui; exhibits by East Kapolei neighbors such as UH-West Oahu and Salvation Army Kroc Center; poster and T-shirt design contests; and an endless supply of onolicious foods and homemade crafts.
