Leeward Community College’s campus courtyards transformed into an international playground March 15 as the college hosted its 15th annual International Education Festival. The daylong event, aptly titled “One World,” marked the fourth and final day of the festival. “This is the first time we culminated with a festival,” said festival chairman Raymund Liongson. “We felt we needed to involve the community if we are to optimally celebrate the diverse and rich cultures of the world. Sharing the spirit of ‘one community’ would give us a better feel and understanding of ‘one world.’” Thousands of revelers got the chance to learn and experience cultures from both near and far through ono cuisine, enchanting dances, live music, keiki games and various displays. “We hope to have those coming to the festival learn more about the culture of other peoples of the globe and become more understanding, accepting and appreciative of them,” Liongson concluded.
