A sold out crowd of 200 golfers showed up at Ko Olina Golf Club in support of literacy Sept. 7. The 14th annual Marriott Links to Literacy Golf tournament featured prizes including the “Marriott Million Hole- In-One” shootout where 14 golfers tested their luck at making a hole-in-one on the 18th hole from 150 yards away to win $500,000 with another $500,000 going to the Friends of the Library of Hawaii. Alas, the money went unclaimed, but the tourney did raise a record $150,000 for the Friends of the Library, surpassing last year’s $120,000. Proceeds provide supplemental funding for state library programs, supplies, continuing education and scholarships for library science students.
