The landmark USS Arizona Memorial Center located in historic Pearl Harbor will soon undergo a much-needed face lift. Last week the National Park Service, Navy Region Hawaii and the Arizona Memorial Museum Association unveiled plans for a new and improved $58 million Pearl Harbor Memorial Museum and Visitor Center. Construction is scheduled to begin within the next few months and is expected to be completed in phases by September 2010, with an official grand opening to follow in December. The current center and tours will remain open during this time. Goals for the new center and museum are: to create an environmentally friendly complex that will provide an improved experience for visitors; preserve and share the historical artifacts and memorabilia while honoring the memories of those who served our country; and to tell a more complete story of the attack on Pearl Harbor.
