It may have been raining cats and dogs the weekend of PETCO’s grand opening, but families and their furry companions still made it out to the new Kapolei Commons Center March 7 and 8 for fun, games and a few firsts. “For us to do on-site adoptions, we don’t do this very often,” said Anne Marie MacPherson, who does community relations for the Hawaiian Humane Society.

Staff and animals from the society were on hand at Hawaii’s first PETCO location to provide information for families looking for the perfect pet, and they will return every Sunday this month.

“We want to work with the community so they are well-equipped and knowledgeable about providing proper and lifelong care for their new family member,” said HHS president and CEO Pamela Burns. MacPherson added they also have a permanent housing facility for cats inside the store.

PETCO is located at 4450 Kapolei Parkway.
