Seagull Schools held a ground-breaking and blessing ceremony March 25 for its Ewa Beach preschool campus, and it came not a moment too soon. “Our Kapolei site is at capacity, and we got 30 calls a day there when we first opened,” says executive director Chuck Larson. “Now we’re getting 50 calls a day. There is an overwhelming need for child care in Kapolei, and Ewa Beach is even worse.”

Anyway, it was a happy day to break ground at Ocean Pointe, whose developer Haseko has donated the land and $200,000 for the center.

The facility will care for 180 keiki on 1.25 acres next to a proposed district park. The master-planned Ocean Pointe will have 4,850 homes, which means a few more children still to come.
