Central Oahu Regional Park in Waipio became competition grounds for top junior tennis players from across the United States during the Feb. 17-21 USTA Boys and Girls 18s National Open. Talent poured in from more than 20 states forming a draw of 64 boys and 64 girls, including eight girls and four boys from Hawaii. Brooke Doane of Ewa Beach, the No. 1 ranked girls 18s player in the state, battled her way to the girls doubles semifinals. Community Day at the park (Feb. 19) featured games and prizes, as well as clinics and demos from Hawaii tennis pros. The 600 visitors to the open also had a chance to check out a Lamborghini Gallardo Spyder and other high-performance vehicles showcased onsite by sponsors JN Automotive Group.
