The long-planned, long-awaited Waipahu Festival Marketplace is finally up and running at 94-340 Waipahu Depot Road. The grand opening was held Nov. 19, and the marketplace is now open from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily. Promoters liken it to a Chinatown-style market with stalls of fresh fish and produce, products and treats from more than 30 vendors. “We are looking to celebrate our rich, multicultural experience through this marketplace,” says Waipahu Community Association president Wayne Ogasawara. “We want to give our local people an attractive place to gather, shop and be entertained.” A business incubator and job training center also are planned.
